Cover abroad: insured benefits

With our insurance policies, you enjoy comprehensive insurance cover abroad – for planned treatment, an illness or an accident. In the event of an emergency, call our Emergency Call Centre as soon as possible so we can coordinate everything for you.

Basic insurance

  • Emergency treatment (outpatient and inpatient): in the case of medically necessary treatment performed by public service providers in EU and EFTA countries, benefits are paid in accordance with the health insurance system in the country where you are staying. If you pay the invoice on site, you can subsequently submit it to Helsana for review. If you agree, Helsana can cover the costs pursuant to Swiss tariffs including the Swiss co-payment of medical costs. For inpatient treatment in private hospitals, the costs are not fully covered even in European countries.

Good to know: any excess must be paid in accordance with the law in the country where the treatment is provided. You are responsible for paying it. In Switzerland, however, there is no co-payment.
