Get in touch with your initial port of call
- Call the BetterDoc hotline on 061 551 01 88 (Mon–Fri, 8 am–5 pm).
- BetterDoc will then send you a tailored/personal questionnaire where you can describe your medical history. You can fill out this questionnaire online.
- The BetterDoc medical team analyses your individual case before drawing on its quality data to recommend up to three doctors or specialists within 48 hours.
- Then, get in touch with your chosen first point of contact (your general practitioner or the Telemedicine Centre) and discuss your treatment plan.
Terms of use
BetterDoc is available completely free of charge to all customers with an alternative basic insurance model (BeneFit PLUS General Practitioner, BeneFit PLUS Telmed, BeneFit PLUS Flexmed or PREMED-24).
Frequently asked questions
BetterDoc is a German company that has had an office in Basel since 2021. BetterDoc has its own permanently employed doctors, as well as its own medically trained staff and a panel of experts with over 2,500 doctors from Switzerland and Germany.
BetterDoc obtains its data and information from various sources:
- Detailed patient testimonials
- The expertise of over 100 leading Swiss doctors and over 2,500 doctors worldwide
- Various quality reports on hospitals and doctors
All customers complete a standard questionnaire. If available, they share other treatment-relevant documents with BetterDoc, such as X-rays, blood count, etc. Based on these documents, BetterDoc can then recommend a specialist.
BetterDoc GmbH meets all the requirements of the Data Protection Act and employs its own team of security experts. All the data is encrypted. The company is subject to doctor-patient confidentiality and treats all requests as strictly confidential.

- If you want advice or treatment from specialists
You can get a second doctor’s opinion before an inpatient procedure, even if you don’t have supplementary insurance. However, not having supplementary insurance means you don’t get direct access to proven experts in the relevant specialist field – unlike with an expert second opinion. You have to find and contact an expert yourself.
- Let your doctor know that you would like to get a second doctor’s opinion. This prevents misunderstandings.
- Send all the documents to the doctor giving the second opinion in advance.
- Make a note of what you are unclear and uncertain about.
- If possible, get somebody to go with you to the second doctor.
- If a medical procedure is not necessarily urgent, allow yourself enough time to make a decision. Don’t let yourself be put under pressure.
