Eyes and visual aids: insured benefits

For better vision and healthy eyes: when it comes to eyes, Helsana covers the following benefits.

Basic insurance*

  • Spectacle lenses and contact lenses**: CHF 180 per calendar year for insured persons up to the age of 18
  • Spectacle lenses and contact lenses**: CHF 180 per calendar year in the event of a disease-related change in visual acuity (refraction)
  • Contact lenses**: CHF 270 every two calendar years if contact lenses lead to a significant improvement compared to glasses
  • Contact lenses**: CHF 630 per eye in the event of irregular astigmatism, keratoconus or diseases and injuries of the cornea
  • Outpatient cataract surgery: CHF 400 per eye for a standard lens, provided it is billed as a flat-rate charge or according to Tarmed
  • Scanning laser ophthalmoscopy: 100% of the costs in the case of hard-to-treat glaucoma
  • Refractive surgery using an intraocular lens: 100% of the costs following cost approval in the event of anisometropia of more than 10 dioptres in combination with keratotomy
  • Laser or surgical keratotomy: 100% of the costs following cost approval in the event of anisometropia of more than 3 dioptres that cannot be corrected by glasses as well as chronic contact lens intolerance

  • Spectacle lenses and contact lenses: 90% of the costs up to a maximum of CHF 150 per calendar year
  • Correction of myopia starting at 8 dioptres: 75% of the costs up to a maximum of CHF 3,000 per calendar year for refractive surgery

COMPLETA EXTRA supplementary insurance***

  • Spectacle lenses, spectacle frames and contact lenses: 100% of the costs, up to a maximum of CHF 300 per calendar year, that exceed the benefits of COMPLETA. If you have not claimed any benefits in previous years, however, the cost contribution for glasses and contact lenses accumulates up to a maximum of CHF 1,500 within five consecutive years.
  • Laser vision correction:  100% of the costs up to a maximum of CHF 750 per eye and calendar year
  • Correction of myopia starting at 8 dioptres: 100% of the excess from COMPLETA for refractive surgery
