Outpatient treatment

Various service providers, such as doctors, dentists, chiropractors, midwives, speech therapists and physiotherapists, treat you on an outpatient basis. This means that you go home right after your treatment or therapy.

Because medicine has made great progress, more and more procedures can be carried out on an outpatient basis. You don't have to plan a hospital stay and will be back at home on the same day.

What's worth knowing about outpatient treatment

In medicine, we refer to outpatient diagnosis, treatment or therapy if you remain in a medical facility (e.g. doctor's, dentist's, physiotherapy practice or hospital) for less than 24 hours and are discharged to go home on the same day.

Even operations of moderate severity that used to require a hospital stay lasting several days can nowadays be carried out on an outpatient basis. Among other things, this includes procedures on joints such as the knee, shoulder, elbow and wrist, on varicose veins or hernias. You arrive in the morning, undergo the necessary preliminary examinations, undergo the procedure, recover in a hospital bed or day room and are discharged after a final examination. You are spared a hospital stay and can make a full recovery in your familiar environment, in private. The supplementary insurance PRIMEO even entitles you to be treated by a head physician or senior physician.
