The Spitalzentrum Biel is the public medical centre of the bilingual Biel, Seeland and southern Bernese Jura region. Around 1,400 members of staff care for 12,000 inpatients a year and 43,000 outpatients and day-care patients. The hospital's emergency services for children and adults are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
As the largest regional hospital in the canton of Bern, the Spitalzentrum Biel provides comprehensive care in virtually all specialist medical fields. Some of these are not covered by any other hospital in the region, such as paediatrics and paediatric surgery (Kinderklinik Wildermeth) or the services provided by the haemodialysis unit and the family planning and information centre the region.
Training, further training and ongoing in-house training have a high priority at the Spitalzentrum Biel. Training places are offered in around 30 job categories.
