With its eight different departments, the Kantonsspital Graubünden plays a key role in many fields of medicine in the canton of Graubünden. In addition, it is responsible for providing extended basic care in the Rhine Valley region around Chur. The hospital makes 200 places available for training and further training.
The Stiftung Kantonsspital Graubünden foundation was set up in 2006 as a result of a merger between three hospitals: the Rätisches Kantonsspital Chur, the Stiftung Kreuzspital Chur and the Kantonales Frauenspital Fontana. As at the start of 2008, around 1,700 members of staff were working in the hospital's eight departments: Institutes; Surgery; ANIR (Anaesthetics, Emergency, Intensive Care, Rescue); Internal Medicine; Paediatrics; Gynaecology and Obstetrics; HR, Nursing and Support and, finally, Services and Administration. The Kantonsspital Graubünden treated around 16,000 inpatients in 374 beds and around 46,000 outpatients in 2007.
