Privacy Policy

Protecting your data and privacy is something the Helsana Group (hereinafter referred to as “Helsana”) cares a lot about. We have taken technical and organisational measures which ensure that the legal regulations on data protection are complied with. Below we explain to you how the data is handled which is captured, processed and used during your visit to our websites.

By accessing the Helsana websites, you agree the present Privacy Policy.

Helsana may update the Policy at any time, which is why we recommend that you check the Policy at regular intervals. The date of the most recent amendment is specified at the end of this Policy.

This Policy applies to all information which we receive during your visit to the Helsana websites. The Policy does not apply to websites which are operated by third parties or under their control and are not affiliated with Helsana. Our websites may contain links to such third-party websites. We therefore request that you consult the respective privacy policies of said third-party websites, because they are outside of Helsana’s sphere of influence and thus do not lie in our area of responsibility.

Scope of the information collected

When you visit the Helsana websites, our Web server automatically registers details of your access (for instance the date and time of your visit and which browser you are using). We also use various cookies/tags which help us to improve your browsing experience on our websites.

The anonymised data collected is used in digital form for statistical purposes and may be used and processed for marketing purposes and for the purpose of optimising and continuously further developing the websites, so as to make them customer-friendly and unique.

Furthermore, you have a choice as to whether you provide us with your personal details via the Helsana websites. This includes, for example, your name, e-mail address, postal address, etc. All of your data is treated in the strictest confidence and will not be passed on to third parties.

Website tracking

Helsana makes use of so-called tracking technologies like cookies or tags. When you visit our websites, cookies/tags are installed on your computer’s hard disk in the form of small text files. The next time you visit our websites, you will have faster and easier access. This means, for example, that you do not have to keep adjusting the language settings each time you visit the site. Cookies/tags help Helsana to improve its customer service and to recognise customers who have visited the website in the past, among other things.

Most Web browsers have functions which make it possible to disable the automatic acceptance of cookies or delete existing cookies. If you do not want any cookies, you can change your browser settings so that any cookies received are only stored after your approval or rejected in general. In order to make website navigation easier, we recommend that you accept cookies and do not delete them. If you block cookies, you may not be able to make full use of the interactive functions on our websites.

Helsana makes use of tracking technologies to the following extent:

  • Performance and tracking cookies/tags

On the one hand, these cookies/tags enable us to engage in needs-based offer marketing and, on the other hand, they give us the option of continuously improving our websites in order to offer you the best possible user experience.

  • Functional cookies/tags

Functional cookies/tags improve your user experience on Helsana websites by storing your user settings such as language preference.

  • Technical cookies/tags

Technical cookies/tags guarantee the functionality of the Helsana websites and are absolutely essential in order to be able to use the full scope of the websites without any restrictions.

Access Google Analytics

Our websites use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. ("Google"). Google Analytics also uses so-called "cookies", which are text files stored on your computer that enable an analysis to be carried out on how you use the websites. The information generated by the cookie regarding your use of our websites is as a rule transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. We have activated IP anonymisation, which means your IP address is shortened beforehand by Google within EU Member States or in other countries which are signatories to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be transmitted to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. Google will use this information on our behalf to evaluate our use of the websites, to compile reports on website activity and to provide other services relating to the use of the websites and Internet. The IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics will not be combined with other Google data.

If you do not want your data to be used in Google Analytics, you can install the browser add-on to deactivate Google Analytics. This add-on instructs the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js, analytics.js, and dc.js) running on websites to prohibit your information from being evaluated by Google Analytics.

Passing on the information collected

The anonymised statistics created based on the data collected via the Helsana websites can be passed on without any restrictions to the following companies with a shareholding in the Helsana Group (Helsana Supplementary Insurances Ltd, Helsana Insurance Company Ltd, Progrès Insurance Company Ltd and Helsana Accidents Ltd) as well as their and its own contractors and third-party suppliers, in Switzerland and abroad, for the aforementioned purposes.

Data security

We protect your personal data captured via the Helsana websites through appropriate technical and organisational measures against unauthorised processing, loss and destruction.

We ensure the confidentiality, availability and integrity of the data.

Getting in touch electronically

Please note that unencrypted e-mails are neither a safe nor suitable means by which to exchange personal data or other confidential information.

Please be aware that if you include personal information in an e-mail without taking the necessary precautions, unauthorised third parties could intercept that data and use or even falsify it without your consent. Personal data contained in an e-mail could possibly also be sent abroad, even though the sender and the recipient are in Switzerland. That means you also have to reckon with the possibility that your personal data may be relayed to a country in which the prevailing standards of data protection are lower than in Switzerland.

If, nevertheless, you decide to contact us and send us your enquiries via unencrypted e-mail, we will assume that it is your express wish to communicate with us in this way. By doing so, you consent to us sending you our reply or the required information also via unencrypted e-mail.

For this reason, we recommend that you get in touch with us directly by using the available contact forms (Contact forms).

Should you have any further questions concerning the processing (where applicable) of your personal data by Helsana or on the use of tracking technologies, the following channels of communication are available:

  • You can ask us directly and request a list of all tools used;
  • You can ask us whether we have stored any personal data on you
  • You can lodge a request for further information, whereupon we will send you a copy of the data stored in our systems (to that end, we require a copy of an official form of identification)
  • You can subsequently instruct us to correct your erroneous personal data.
