Fondation Sana is a charitable foundation operating in the healthcare sector and is also a shareholder of the Helsana Group, and uses the Prix Sana to honour people who are committed to their fellow citizens and our healthcare system. Their initiative and passion send out key signals to our society and are an impressive testament to the importance of personal commitment in the healthcare sector. This year’s winners of the Prix Sana are the Peers of the Swiss Cancer League and Cristina De Biasio Marinello.

Support for those living with cancer

Having someone at your side to offer support when times are hard is crucial for those facing illnesses such as dementia or cancer. “At the time, I would have liked to have someone to talk to who had gone through the same thing,” says Andrea, who, after two cancer diagnoses, now works as a Peer (a contact person for sufferers and their family members). She is one of the 80 people who offer support to others during the difficult times of dealing with cancer via the peer platform of the Swiss Cancer league.

Dementia at a young age

Around 8,000 young people live with dementia in Switzerland. Cristina De Biasio Marinello is a co-founder of the mosa!k association, which provides services for those people. “When someone develops dementia at a young age, they are usually ejected from the world of work. Their finances are not in order, and their children are still in education. They face a huge obstacle and don’t know what to do. That’s when you need someone like Cristina,” says Franziska Ebneter, who nominated Cristina De Biasio Marinello for the prize.

Fondation Sana has awarded the Prix Sana 35 times to date, bestowing a total of CHF 380,000 on people who are committed to helping others. The award is presented at a ceremony that is also attended by the winners’ families and friends. This year’s prize is worth CHF 15,000.

Fondation Sana and Helsana would like to congratulate these extraordinary people most warmly, and thank them for their valuable contribution to society.
