Helsana report shows: Medical services on the rise
In Switzerland, increasing numbers of patients make use of medical treatments. Patients increasingly so to specialists and have outpatient treatments in hospitals more and more often. The volume report shows which medical treatments are popular and sees great potential in other health care occupations.
In the volume report, Helsana studied the development of medical treatments. The analyses show that patients increasingly go to specialists and hospital outpatient departments. The number of emergency treatments also increased in the hospitals. The duration and frequency of consultations have increased considerably in all age groups and cantons in the last five years. And imaging techniques such as X-ray or ultrasound and lab analyses are now used much more frequently. The reasons behind this are technological advances and the desire of both patients and doctors to obtain certainty of diagnosis faster and more reliably.
In view of the increase in medical treatments from various service providers, coordination is now more important than ever. General practitioners have less and less time to devote to this coordination. Helsana sees great potential for action in the coordination of medical services.
This volume report is an expression of Helsana’s commitment. Helsana would like to contribute to increase transparency in health care and to initiate a fact-based discussion.
