In the event of a medical emergency abroad, getting first aid from an emergency practitioner is top priority. Depending on the severity of the illness or consequences of the accident, a lengthier stay in hospital may be unavoidable. Should circumstances require, it may be necessary to repatriate the patient to Switzerland. The decision is based on the assessment of the doctors and whether the patient can be transported.
