Jonas Schmid, our ambassador for the Special Olympics, is excited: from 14 to 21 March 2019, he will pit his skills against judokas from around the world. Get involved – cheer on the Swiss judo team!
Jonas Schmid has been waiting for this moment for months: the 22-year-old judoka is travelling to the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi together with the Swiss delegation. From 14 to 21 March, more than 7,000 athletes from over 190 countries will compete in 24 different sporting disciplines.
Jonas regularly takes part in Special Olympics competitions. Our ambassador is therefore proud to be part of the world’s biggest sporting movement for people with learning difficulties or multiple impairments. As a premium partner, Helsana helps people with disabilities extend their love of life and sport.
“Another medal would be nice!”
Will Jonas from Appenzell be able to do outdo his success of last year? He won two silvers at the National Summer Games in Geneva. At the official departure in Zurich Airport, Jonas is nervous but happy he is finally on the way. “I’ve been training hard and am delighted to be part of this major competition.” He has received lots of great tips from his trainer, Mario. “My latest trick is swinging the hips,” reveals Jonas. And what is that cuddly toy wearing an Appenzeller pointed cap there? “This is my lucky charm, Helsi,” says the athlete, smiling. “He also wears a judo belt.”
