Pregnancy

The desire to have a baby

«I want to have a baby and hope I get pregnant soon. What do I have to do to make sure I get pregnant quickly? Are there things I already have to think about now?»

Kinderwunsch

There's hardly a more wonderful moment in a woman's life than when she finds out she's expecting the baby she wanted. Various factors have to play together for a woman to get pregnant.

Fertile up to around the age of 40

The age of the woman of course plays a role. Women aged 20 to 25 have a greater chance of getting pregnant more quickly. But many women today are way over 30 when they have their first baby and are referred to as older first-time mothers if they have their first child aged 35 to 40. As a woman's fertility starts to decline from the age of 30, it can simply take longer until she gets pregnant.

A relaxed attitude helps

There are several things you can do to positively influence your fertility. Keep a relaxed attitude when trying to get pregnant. Try to reduce stress and give yourself time to relax. Make sure that you have a healthy and balanced diet.

Getting pregnant means that you'll soon be responsible for a child. Once your baby has arrived, it will need all of your love and attention and also bring you much joy.

What can Helsana do for you?

Of course maternity insurance won't be the first thing on your mind when planning to have a baby. However, maternity insurance benefits are something you should think about as early as possible. Your basic insurance entitles you to choose your own doctor for outpatient treatment as well as the hospital in your canton of residence you would like to give birth in. It also covers, for example, the costs of eight check-ups, of which two ultrasound examinations, three breastfeeding consultations and several pregnancy aids.

Optimal insurance cover

You may have further requirements, though. Perhaps you need additional examinations during pregnancy. Or you'd like to give birth in a semi-private or private ward in the hospital of your choice. These additional options are open to you if you have corresponding supplementary insurance. Timing is an important aspect in this context as a waiting period of 365 days until you are entitled to the benefits applies for supplementary insurance. It's best to get advice early on so that you can really take advantage of the insurance cover you require during pregnancy and for the birth.
