Executive Board

The Executive Board manages the operations of the Helsana Group. It consists of five members. The CEO has executive operating responsibility and represents the Helsana Group externally.

Daniel H. Schmutz

Daniel Schmutz CEO

Daniel H. Schmutz, born 1966, Swiss, has served as CEO of the Helsana Group since July 2010. He joined the Helsana Group as the director of Finance/Services and board member in 2006. Prior to taking this position, Daniel H. Schmutz was employed at SwissLife Group in Zurich as Director of Group Strategy and Controlling. From 1997 to 2002, he was employed at The Boston Consulting Group, Zurich – his last position before leaving was manager – where he served Swiss and international customers in the insurance sector.

Daniel H. Schmutz is a member of the board of Curafutura, a member of the Management Council of the International Federation of Health Plans (IFHP), Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Solida AG and a member of the board of the promotion company Förderungsgesellschaft I.VW-HSG. He completed his university studies with a lic. rer. publ. (degree in political science, economics and law) at the University of St. Gallen and holds an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School in Philadelphia.

Rudolf Bruder

Rudolf Bruder Head of Finance & Insurance

Rudolf Bruder, born 1970, Swiss, has been with Helsana since 1997 and serves on its Executive Board since 2010. From 2001 to 2010, he acted as Head of Finance and Accounting. Before joining Helsana, Rudolf Bruder was employed at two different banks for nine years – Valiant Bank and Neue Aargauer Bank. Most recently, he served as the Head of Debtor Accounting and Customer Service at Europcar Switzerland.

Rudolf Bruder is a member of the Board of Directors of Solida AG and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Helsana Insurance Company Ltd pension fund. He completed a banking apprenticeship, is a Swiss Chartered Auditor with a degree from the HWV (Higher College for Business and Administration) and holds an Executive Master of Corporate Finance.

Jürg Stupp

Jürg Stupp Head of Marketing & Sales

Jürg Stupp, born 1969, Swiss, has served on the Executive Board of the Helsana Group since July 2010 and has been employed at Helsana since 1996. From 2001 to 2010 he was responsible for planning and controlling within the whole Group as Head of Controlling-, and, from 2010 to 2014, for the Products business area.

Jürg Stupp is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Helsana Rechtsschutz AG and a member of the Board of Directors of Coop Rechtsschutz AG. Before joining Helsana, he worked as a client advisor in the field of institutional investments at Zürcher Kantonalbank. Jürg Stupp is a Swiss Chartered Auditor with a degree from the HWV (Higher College for Business and Administration).

Michael Willer

Michael Willer Head of Client Services & Benefits

Michael Willer, born 1967, Swiss, has been a member of the Executive Board of the Helsana Group since July 2010. He joined the Helsana Group as the Head of Benefits Management for Private Customers in 2006. Before joining Helsana, he held various positions at Accenture, Zurich from 1997 to 2005 serving Swiss and international customers in the areas of insurance, health and pharmaceuticals.

Michael Willer is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aviga AG, SSS AG and of the HSK Purchasing Cooperative. He also represents the health insurers in the “Forum Datenaustausch” (a data exchange forum). He completed his studies at the ETH Zurich, earning the title Dr. sc. nat. and also holds degrees in business administration from the ETH Zürich (BWI) and the Kellogg School of Management in Evanston (USA).

Achim Baumstark

Achim Baumstark Head of Information Technology

Achim Baumstark, born 1964, German, holds a master degree in Computer Science and Computer Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe and an Insurance Management Diploma from the University of St. Gallen. He started his career with Andersen Consulting in Budapest and Chicago, 1991 - 1995. From 1995 to 2000 he worked for Debis Systemhaus (Daimler Benz) in Frankfurt and Stuttgart as a Program Manager. From 2000 to 2009 he worked in various roles for Daimler AG in the Milton Keynes, UK, in Berlin and in Stuttgart.

In 2009, Achim Baumstark moved to Switzerland and started to work for Zurich Insurance Group, first as Head of IT for HR, Finance and Risk on group level, and since 2011 as Head of IT in BU Switzerland. Achim Baumstark joined Helsana as CIO and member of the Executive Board in 2013.
